“Do you want to tell me why I saw Luxion bending light around himself like it was fabric?”

Ten looked up from the roasted leg of whatever it was she was eating to see Mina plop down right next to her. The celebration raged all around them, people dancing, eating, and otherwise celebrating the unlikely outcome of their engagement with the forces of Epoch Sol.

“Is that what he was doing?” Ten asked, the words making a strange sort of sense of what she’d witnessed.

“That’s how it looked to me,” Mina said. If she’d had eyes, they would have been full of curiosity, Ten could tell. “It reminded me of how Miss Olyer used to fold my sheets back when I was only allowed to visit every so often, except it was around a dragon. And in my vision, everyone around you acted as if they couldn’t see him at all. Until suddenly, he took that light-fabric and just had it floating in front of him and then everyone behind you acted as if he’d just popped out of nowhere.”

“Bending light, huh?” Ten mused, turning it over this way and that in her mind. That did paint quite the detailed picture, and honestly, Ten wanted to chuckle at it a bit, but she didn’t want her friend to think she was laughing at her. “I wonder if your vision is exactly what happened.”

“Why are you being so cagey?”

“Am I?” Ten said. “It might be the giggle-mushroom stuff.”

At that, Mina let out a sharp laugh, and Ten felt welcome to join in. Sure, she may not have been up and dancing like other people, but she was still enjoying herself. “Just take it easy on that stuff, okay? You’re definitely not used to it.”

“No, I am not,” Ten agreed, grabbing her tankard of cool, pristine cave-reservoir water and chugging a good amount. “But to answer your question that I’m pretty sure you’ve figured out on your own, Luxion can turn invisible.”

“…invisible. Invisible?” Oh, maybe Mina hadn’t figured it out on her own. That was curious. “And you’re not just pulling a prank because I’m blind, right?”

“When have I ever pulled a prank on you because you were blind?”

“Alright, that’s a fair point. You just understand how it might be hard for me to understand that you not only have a dragon with an ability that’s never been heard of before, but also that you’ve known and just didn’t think to tell any of us.”

Ten squinted at the Maiden. “Is that last part really all that surprising?”

The Maiden didn’t answer for a moment, then huffed once she realized Ten was right. “Ugh. I hate you.”

“Noooo,” Ten drawled. “You love me. Despite everything.” While the rider wasn’t normally a very touchy-feeling person, she leaned against her best friend, letting her head rest on the Maiden’s shoulder.

“I would argue it’s because of everything that I love you, but yeah.” Mina reached over and took Ten’s abandoned tankard of the bubbly, intoxicating mushroom drink that the Aeotarai favored instead of Epoch Sol’s preferred mead.
